We are delighted to be able to share the findings of the Ofsted and SIAMS (Church School) inspections which took place earlier this year. We are hugely proud of all pupils, staff, parents and governors who contribute so much and in many different ways to Flax and it is this team effort that has achieved Ofsted’s recognition of outstanding in all key areas.
The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Flax Bourton as a Church of England school are outstanding
- Christian values underpin, and have an evident impact on, the school’s approach to relationships, the wellbeing of pupils and attitudes towards learning
- Collective worship provides important times for pupils to be still and reflect and sets the tone for the school day
- The school offers an environment where children are valued as individuals and as a result, their talents are given every opportunity to flourish
Here are some of the opening comments from the Ofsted report.
Comments such as these demonstrate the high degree of confidence that parents, Governors and visitors have in the school. Several praise the caring ethos and the high degree of attention given to meeting children’s needs. Their confidence is justified. Pastoral care is a particular strength of the school and all staff know individual pupils well. To read the full Ofsted report please click on this link.
Flax Bourton Primary school is a small rural school set in beautiful countryside just seven miles from the centre of Bristol. Our school community comes from the village of Flax Bourton as well as the surrounding villages of Barrow Gurney, Failand , Backwell and Long Ashton.
We aim to create excellent educational opportunities within the context of a happy family atmosphere rooted in Christian values. Links with the church and our community are important to us and play a large part in our daily school lives. Our motto of ‘Aiming High, Respecting Others and Having Fun‘ underpins our philosophy of education and how we learn as a school community.
We have an experienced team of colleagues who believe passionately that learning should be fun and teaching creative, taking children from where they are to where they have the potential to be.
