Tackling sexual harassment
There is no place for sexual harassment at our school. That is why we have signed up to the UK Feminista Action Pledge.
Through their resources and the vigilance and proactive work of our staff, we tackle gender stereotyping through the resources we use in the classroom. We encourage inclusive language (e.g. ‘firefighter’ rather than ‘fireman’) and use displays and resources to counter stereotypical images and provide a diverse range of role models.
We challenge sexist language when we hear it and, where appropriate, use incidents as ‘teachable moments’ by having a discussion about the language and the impact it has.
We promote equal participation in activities. For example, we are proud of work in establishing a girls football team.
We also support staff to deepen their understanding through continuous professional development.
Our work in PSHE as well as our specific teaching using the NSPCC Pants Programme also supports our aim to educate children on how to stay safe and helps us as we explore the concept of healthy relationships.
