Our Governors

Andrew Jordan (Chair of Governors) –

Carole Phillips  (Foundation Governor / Safeguarding Governor) – Carole describes herself as ‘one of the more mature governors.’ She is a retired teacher and has been into a lot of schools in and around the Local area. When she finished teaching she felt that she still had more to give to education and found herself helping at Flax Bourton.
Carole loves spending time in Flax as a volunteer working with children and supporting staff.

Gillian Luff (Co-opted Governor) – Gillian has lived in Flax Bourton with her family for over 37years, and both her children and two of her grandchildren attended this school. She trained as a social worker and has worked in several hospices, latterly involved in staff support. She has always been passionately interested in Education and sits on the Curriculum, Standards and Organisation Committee and Personnel Committee. She will retire from the Board of Governors in July 2018.

Victoria Gough (LA Governor) – Vicki has been a governor at Flax since 2014 and now has two children at the school. Vicki is an employment law solicitor and loves using that expertise on the Personnel and Pay committee, which she currently chairs. Vicki is passionate about the school and its fabulous facilities and staff and is delighted that the school is growing so that more local children can experience the very special educational experience that is on offer here. When she isn’t ‘lawyering’ or governing, Vicki enjoys being with her busy family, (intermittent) exercise, reading, film, music and entertaining.

Sally James (Foundation Governor)  – Sally became a Governor in January 2016. She sits on the Personnel & Pay Committee and is class-link Governor to Oak class. Sally is also Secretary of the FBSA. Sally is married with one daughter in the school. She enjoys playing netball, practicing yoga and travelling.

Matt McFeat (Parent Governor) – Matt has three children at Flax Bourton Primary, with his youngest starting at Flax in September 2017. He has two children at the school, and when not running around after them, enjoys running himself and cycling.

Tamsin Karim  (Parent Governor) – Giving back to our wonderful school that both my children attend is the reason I am a parent governor. I bring twenty years of teaching experience in different schools to the governing body, and I have a particular interest in the education of children with SEND. I am currently the chair of the Curriculum, Standards and Organisation Committee.

Tracey Knott (Parent Governor) – Tracey has one child currently in year 5 at Flax Bourton Primary School. She has been a parent governor at the school since September 2016. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Finance and Premises committee & join Vice Chair of the Governing body. John Purcell (Clerk to Governors) – I am in my fourth year as Clerk to Governors at Flax. I also Clerk at 4 other Schools within North Somerset. I have 12 years’ experience as a Governor, in West Yorkshire and Buckinghamshire, before relocating to North Somerset. My interest started as a parent, wanting to be able to support my own children through their education, whilst at the same time supporting/ challenging the Schools, to be the best they could.

Jane Bennett  (Head Teacher) –

Donna Williams (Staff Governor)  – Donna has been a teacher for 18 years and has been at Flax Bourton Primary, in the Reception Class, since September 2009. Donna became a Staff Governor in February 2016 and is currently on the Curriculum, Standards and Organisation Committee.
